I am gonna be a quitter

As of about 7 pm this evening it has been a whole 12 hours of not smoking. Yea I know that don't seem like much to most people. But when you have smoked for 30 years, anywhere from 1 to 3 packs a day, 12 hours with no cigarette is a big deal.  Rodger is quitting also and that makes it so much easier for me. But good grief, not sure how much of this chewing gum my jaws can stand.  I have cleaned some today and did some laundry to try to eliminate the smell of smoke in the house. Its hard to believe how much more sensitive my nose is after not smoking for 12 hours. I'm sure in a few days food will taste better too. AND that just might become another problem. Well the weather is still nice so I can get outside and not eat all the time.
Not much else happening here today, so till next time, blessings from the McGuire homestead.

Good for you! Hang in there. One of the things I learned when I was in the recovery center 13 years ago for my drinking is that cigarettes are more addictive than any illegal street drug there is. Take it one day (or one minute) at a time!

It's so exciting that you are both quitting. I saw a carton of the brand that I used to smoke and it was $56.99 without tax. OMG! I went a bit overboard with my eating (okay a lot) and I've lost 30 pounds this summer so enjoy how everything tastes but dont eat the whole damn thing. LOL. I cheated on Day 4 and Day 12; I threw up the second time and haven't smoked since. November will be 5 years! Good Luck! Find something to keep your hands busy; stress ball, knitting or something.

Hey Stella,

I've been reading your blog for a couple months now and enjoying the heck out of it, been meaning to post and say hello but can't put it off any longer with this quitin' post here. I just quit this last May for my 50th b-day, been smokin' bout as long as you and knew I needed to do myself a favor and get over the crutch. 4 months now and doin' good. If I can do it you can too, specially if your hubby is doin it with you.

Are you using the patch or the nicorette gum? Those two things really helped me out a lot. They're expensive if your med insurance doesn't cover them but let me tell you it definitely got me past wanting to light up.

Anyway I am moving to my KY farm here in a few months, retiring from the Navy and lookin forward to puttin in a real garden and puttin up food for a real winter (southern CA doesn't have winter). Really enjoy your blog and hearing about all the work you do and projects, it's nice to know people still value hard work and self-sufficiency.

Good luck bein a quitter!

You can do it Stella. :) I did, back in 85. I still remember how hard it was. I told myself give it 3 weeks and you will have a new habit. Kept on telling myself and telling myself. Finally 3 weeks was past and I said.. you made it 3 weeks, you can make it forever. And well here it is now 26 years, still kind of like the smell of a waft of smoke in the fall.. but I have not picked one up since 85. :)
